DESCRIPTION OF THE AUTOMATED PROCESS:

The drilling machine can be divided into three parts:

Input – placement of the parts by the operator
Drilling – the required hole is drilled
Output – the finished parts are checked by camera inspection and inserted into blisters and subsequently removed by the operator

The purpose of the drill is to create a hole with a diameter of 0.8 mm into the pressure sensor housing. The housing is press produced. This machine must be able to drill two generations of housings (SMP13x and SMP14x). These housings are supplied by several different suppliers.

The parts are inserted into the machine in plastic blisters, consisting of 36 each.
The blisters are inserted in columns.
One blister is always separated from the column, and a SCARA robot takes the parts from it and places them on the main carousel. A camera is used to determine the orientation of the pieces in the blisters and uses a key to place them correctly on the carousel.
The parts are first pre-drilled on the main carousel and fully drilled at the next station. This is done using high-speed spindles. The drills are cooled with cutting fluid. There is also a spindle cooling circuit. Crucial is the very precise adjustment of the position of pre-drilling and drilling, with the precision of the adjustment to each other in micrometers. Each position on the carousel must be adjusted so that the parts have their holes in the same position.
After drilling, the parts are moved to the output station, where the part receives a burst of air and camera inspection, which checks the position of the hole and whether it goes through the part. We also check to make sure there are no burrs after drilling.
Finally, the OK pieces are placed in output blisters and stacked in columns, which are then removed by the operator. The same operator also inserts the empty blisters.
